Finished my exams, drank myself into oblivion and now have nothing to do. Saw this editorial on childhoodflames.com and fell in love with it. Its from Vogue Italia, July 2007.

Dont step on my Studded/Spikey Shoes
Its just past midnight and I should be studying for my Cultural Identities exam which is technically tomorrow. Its all very interesting, I'm focusing on the monstrous female body... and doubly monstrous women; women who are doubly monstrous because they are female and disabled. Im looking at how female amputees in horror films are portrayed as deviant and monstrous... so anyway I gave up studying for a while to take a look back over Junya Watanabe's last few collections -as one does the day before their exams. The reasoning behind this is, I did a presentation on Comme Des Garcons (Junya Watanabe and Rei Kawakubo) for Cultural Identities last year. Looking at how the garments of Comme Des Garcons deconstructed gender ideals - they basically get rid of gender in their clothes... So I came across these babies from Watanbe's Autumn/Fall Collection 2006
I studded two pairs of cheap boots that I have, im very tempted to get a nice pair of brogues and stud them now. Ok now back to the study....

Susan on South Park
So Susan Boyle, the unlikely next-big-thing made it onto South Park. Well it certainly seals the deal, thanks to the internet she is a world wide phenomeneon. She, along with her massive eyebrows and frizzy afro appeared on that shiteous talent programme, Britains Got Talent a while back and blew Simon Cowell and some other unimportant judges away.

TieDyeAcidWash
My adventure for today, to tie dye a pair of jeans. So i have never done this before and im figuring it probably makes more sense to buy a pair of white jeans and tie dye them with black dye. What I have on my hands is a pair of black jeans and some bleach, i think i got it wrong. I realise now what i have to do, I must ACID WASH these babies. I was on chictopia.com where i found out what i have to do. Basically all it entails is:
WET THE GARMENT
WRING OUT THE WATER
TAKE YOUR AVERAGE EVERYDAY BLEACH AND SQUIRT ALL OVER THE GARMENT
LEAVE THE BLEACH TO SOAK IN FOR A WHILE
(im going to leave mine for about 20 mins)
WHEN SATISIFIED, RINSE OFF THE BLEACH
WASH IN THE WASHING MACHINE
DRY AND GET READY TO LOOK FLY
Maybe I'll look like the above, Chloe Acid Jeans.
IheartMosshart
Alison Mosshart of The Kills fame, aside from Karen O is one of the more badass gals of rock n roll. Too bad The Kills kind of suck now and Dead Weather Mosshart's new venture with Jack White and numerous other men of music is kind of dead in the water. Still one can appreicate a beautiful girl with talent and style.
The gold Marc Jacobs boots are fucking amazing. The fur coat hits the mark. And that poncho she is wearing in the pictures with that Noel Fielding is oddly reminiscent of the one I have been living in of late from the African Safari shop on Liffey St. In the last picture she gets it right by mixing leopard and tartan. Im bringing back my tartan trousers, got them for 10euro in Temple Bar about 6 years ago, its time they were revived.

Flow Sweetly, Hang Heavy
Its 2:36 am on a Sunday morning and if the world couldnt get any right-er than Karen O's Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh's on Track 9 of It's Blitz will help. It's Summer time and I pretty much think I can see it in the night, lovely stuff. Can't sleep but who needs sleep when theres the Yeah Yeah Yeah's??? I wish I could remember more of their show at Ep 07 (?), it really doesnt matter what year it was, all I remember is a shiny little yellow-sequined-dancing-super-duper Karen O and me jumping on some poor soul's broken leg... in a sense that gig reminds me of James Brown from Oxegen '05. All I remember from that gig is a sparkley-green-suited-up King of Soul...
HYSTERIC, for me, is one of the most lovely tracks the YYY's have ever produced. It fits perfetly into a night like this, and will fit perfectly into many more to come. I can see it in the Summer

Wild Thing, do do do do, You make my Heart Sing
Spike Jonze's film adaptation of the children's book by Maurice Sendak, Where The Wild Things Are is going to be epic, fucking epic! I can not wait until its release later this year. I love the stills i have seen from it so far and I even found some test footage which i will share with you, below. I also found out that Disney owned the rights to the book back in the 1980's, when I was just a twinkle in my Daddys eye. They set upon making it into a film, mixing the old-school disney animation with 3D computery graphics (Im shit with computers, but it looks like Toy Story, etc). Anyway they ended up abandoning the project and lost the rights. I found a sneak peek at some of the footage they had produced so far, which i will also share with you.
Finally I had been searching high and low for the trailer of the film and came out fruitless when my good friend Rory came to the rescue and sent me a link, Thank you Rawwwwwwwwwwwry! So, enjoy these little clips. This film is seriously going to change my life. I mean the music to the trailer is ARCADE FIRE, God its just a film sent from heaven really.

Digging for Gold - Things I dig this Month
Vintage Sequined Dresses, see above. This will be mine whether it fits me or not. It's gonna be my answer to Balmain (see below, this dress makes me green with envy...envious of all the people who have it and i dont)
Old-School-Heart-felt mixed CDs with heart-felt lovely things written on the sleeve.
Ulysses - I have fallen in love with James Joyce, he makes me laugh, I feel kinda awkward around him sometimes and find him hard to read - Yep. Sounds like love.
Affectionate people, not overly affectionate but people that aren't afraid to show a little compassion.
FLORAL EVERYTHING. I quite fancy all the floral things in Topshop at present.
Septum Piercings. I want one - just a little tiny ring that will fit around my septum, snug as a bug in a rug.
Red Hair
Howling Bells and Laura Marling - just two of my new extreme favourites.
Animal Collective - get better every time I listen to them and Im going to see them on friday. Life is sweet.
Bright nights and fresh air - speaks for itself really, Summer is on the way.
Slyvia Plath. - From Nick And The Candlestick: You are the one
Solid the spaces lean on, envious.
You are the baby in the barn.

Well,ifonlyyoucouldseewhativeseenwithyoureyes
So im procrasinating, my contemporary cinema essay is due tomorow. And im sick of watching Bladerunner, even though I really really like that film, anyway so i figured i might as well post my favourite New Pornographers song because i was bigging them up in my last post.
Myriad Harbour, its a myriad of lovelyness. I dont know but i think it kind of suits today; its all foggy and whatnot outside and i imagine a harbour being all foggy and stuff and a foghorn going off.
Like a hitman,like a dancer
A.C Newman.
Ok so only two songs up on his myspace but you hypemachine him out of it and you'll fall in love with him too.
Get Guilty is A.C Newman's sophmore solo album. To be honest I thought this was his first. I first met his music two years ago when he was still with The New Pornographers (who in my opinion are far superior musically than this solo stuff). But anyway The New Pornographers werent going to last forever so this solo A.C Newman stuff will suffice - that makes it sound like its not good but it really is. (Check out The New Pornographers too if you already havent.)
This live version of 'Heartbreak Rides' was the only one I could find -
Just out of the woods and yelling down the mountain,
all I really wanted was to go downtown
and so we ride.
The hearbreak slides.
She led the modern sunset to your window,
gestured with a plane jane hand,
she said "Let's go."
"Allez!" she cried.
The heartbreak rides for free.
California adds some casual bedlam,
something in the basic swing of things led them to victimless crimes.
The heartbreak climbs.
Playing with your words, a girl and two headlights,
blinders on the interstate, we want the good life.
"LA!" she cried.
The heartbreak rides for free.

thebatisback
So she's back, the one and only Bat For Lashes. Natasha Khan has a place in my heart ever since her outstanding debut album Fur and Gold. She blew me away at Electric Picnic 07 and to top it all off she has killer style and looks to die for. Here is the video for the first single off her eagerly anticipated follow-up album Two Suns. Entitled Daniel, this excellent track reminds me a little of the amazing M83. But only a little...
Two Suns is released on April 6, day before my birthday yo! So yeah you should all know what to get me.

Another post because I can't sleep
If I have this dress for my 21st I will be one happy lady.
Everyone from Alice Dellal (pictured above) to Erin Wasson to Kanye West's skanky new bald girlfriend are wearing this Alexander Wang jigsaw-puzzle-masterpiece, its SHEER AMAZING
Sorry Beastie Boys, I think you may have got it wrong this time:
I'm a bank cashier, Engineer, I wear cotton but i don't wear sheer
If I was a bank cashier I would wear this shizz to work everyday.
missmossmossmoss
Ok so The Mosser looked amazing the other night while heading to the Chanel Party in Paris, despite that minging thing hanging off her arm there on the right. She looked like the cat that got the cream alright but seriously, what the hell happened? Less than 24 hours later she's spotted doing a bit of retail therapy in THIS monstrousity...
Now the top part is OK, I like the detailing on the shoulders and that shade of grey is one of my favourites but it all goes down hill from there. Even the length, I would have preferred this to be ground-skimming with a pair of gladiator sandals. Although I'm sure Paris is too cold for sandals at the moment... but anyway Im not impressed with the ankle-skimmingness of it all, it just emphasises those (you cant see very well from the picture) awful half heel witchy boots. If you are going to wear heels do it properly, none of this half-heel bollix.
So, Kate, please whip out the Fur and the Louboutins tomorrow so I can remember once again why I fell in love with you.

Oh! I've just been BORN
Yes yes yes good evening good evening. My name is GRIFFNAIL and this is the BEGINNING. Here will be our adventures. She, Solid Gold, bleached out quasi-journalist, and I, some anxious fake playwright. We are too young and too aged. We are suburban and too Irish.
But we are angry and we know that our complaints deserve to be heard.
Yes, yes, good evening good evening - here you may or may not find stories strange things we find on our collective or seperate travels, maybe snapshots, Gold's reviews, my temper, maybe scenes from the fabulous student films we are in... good evening good evening, we have biro ink coming out of our hands and stories upon stories to tell.
Good evening, good night,
Solid Gold should hit up a hello too
Griff signing out, bitches
